You've Got Mail....
This movie... one of my all time favorites, mainly because it's about two very 'real' people. When I talk real, I'm talking about someone who I would actually want to know in person, someone I would send a Christmas card to. I have grown weary of the superficial, artificial, plasticity of today's personalities... both on TV and in the real world. Oprah rants on about 'mom jeans' and the homemaker's 'uniform' of sweatpants, jeans, and or sweatshirt and tennis shoes combined with pony tails and no make up. Excuse 'moi my dear but I am not going to wear foundation and lipstick and don Jimmy Choos just to do laundry and clean house. I don't get my nails done, one, because it's too expensive to keep up, and two, because I can't type with those damn things on. There was a time in my life when I was totally self absorbed with my looks... now, put on your big girl panties and deal, I'm comfortable in my own skin. I don't need designer shoes or clothes to complete me, don't get me wrong, it's nice to have pretty clothes, I just have an aversion to buying a pair of shoes that cost more than my first car. Oddly enough though, I enjoy the 'Sex and the City' series... mainly because I find myself laughing at them... not because the writers give them funny lines to say and put them in silly predicaments, but because they represent the the characteristics of the women that we are as a whole; the cynic, the temptress, the prude and the dreamer... The media has forced us from young girlhood to believe that we should fit into some category of woman... we're either wallflower or blossoming ingenue. We should be thin, we should have long flowy hair.... Why can't we just be US? Slightly fluffy, short hair, jeans wearing, sweater donning and comfortable......
